Guru Purnima






O Guru Purnima acontece no mês Julho, no dia de Lua Cheia e consiste numa festividade anual que presta homenagem ao Guru - aquele que remove a escuridão do nosso corpo, que traz luz à nossa mente  e que mostra o caminho para a nossa alma. É um dia onde prestamos o respeito ao nosso Guru - o professor - relembrando a importância que ele(s) ou ela(s) têm na nossa vida e reforçando a nossa intenção como alunos. 

Para os Ashtangis este é um dia particularmente especial, porque também festejamos o aniversário do Guruji, que nasceu em Julho de 1915, no dia de Lua Cheia. De Mysore para o resto do Mundo, escutam-se cânticos que salientam a importância do Guru, da necessidade do Guru, do papel do Guru. De Mysore para o resto do Mundo, relembram-se momentos vividos com Pattabhi Jois, partilham-se histórias, esboçam-se sorrisos, oferecem-se flores. De Mysore para o resto do Mundo, ficam olhares que representam saudades de um homem que dedicou a sua vida à prática, estudo e ensino do Ashtanga Yoga, que marcou e continuará a definir, a vida de tantos praticantes.  De Mysore para o resto Mundo, misturam-se hindus, católicos, muçulmanos, ateus e outros mais, mulheres e homens, novos e velhos, praticantes de tantos países, com corpos e mentes distintas, que se juntam para evocarem o Guru Ashtakam.

Guru Purnima occurs in the month of July, on the day of full moon and consists of an annual festivity which pays homage to the Guru - he who removes darkness from our bodies, brings light to our minds and shows the way to our soul. It is a day when we pay respect to our Guru - our teacher - remembering the importance he/she  has in our lives and reinforcing our intentions as students. 


For Ashtangis this is a particularly special day, because we also celebrate Guruji s birthday, who was born in July 1915 on a full moon day. From Mysore to the rest of the World, chants are heard which emphasize the importance of the Guru, the necessity of the Guru, the role of the Guru. From Mysore to the rest of the World, moments with Pattabhi Jois are relived, stories shared, smiles sketched and flowers offered. From Mysore to the rest of the World, Hindus, Catholics, Muslims, Atheists and other mix, women and men, young and old, practitioners from so many countries with different bodies and minds, come together to sing the Guru Ashtakam.
