STUDENT DOUBT

RIA-ME NAS AULAS, TENTAVA COISAS NOVAS...

Prática a prática  fui descobrindo a Prática.

Already seated at the table of custom, leaning against the back of the chairs, feeling the 9am sun touching our faces and brighten even more the traces of another Ashtanga Yoga practice ... there we were relaxed, enjoying that feelinh of practice in body and mind, that feeling of "after practice", when we heard "DO NOT KNOW IF ASHTANGA YOGA IS REALLY MY PRACTICE?" We inevitably looked at each others, then we set eyes on who had spoken. It was easy to see he was disturbed, restless and even sad. We understand that phrase that would not be a topic of conversation for our breakfast, but it was the beginning of a conversation from him to him, because  he needed to talk, especially to hear himself. "I'M THERE, STOPPED IN THE SAME POSE FOR ONE YEAR ...  I REMEMBER WHEN PRACTICED OTHER TYPE YOGA, THAT WAS FUN, I LAUGH IN CLASSES, I TRIED NEW POSES ... THIS ASHTANGA IS SO SERIOUS ... WE ARE THERE ALL SILENT..."The arguments continued, although they were always the same, he just changed the words to describe them. That he was stopped in the same posture, he felt frustrated with the process, that it was very serious, not amused ...  and between our bites on rye bread, scoops in the famous chia porridge, sips in the orange juice, or in the spirulina smoothie we were listening with the utmost attention and sympathy, until he shut up and all eyes fixed on me.

There i straightened up in my chair and I thought to begin by saying that,  "only you can answer your question, only you will know if this Ashtanga Yoga is your daily practice or not. What i can tell is that when I discovered this Yoga method, I felt at home. Finally home! Not everything was easy, simple, beautiful, light, deep ... and I had and still have, my own days of despair, doubt, fear. I also was stopped in postures, I also had to learn with the routine of practicing, making the same movements and positions to begin to understand that although the layout is the same, the practices are alike. Practice by practice I discovered the Practice. Practice by practice i understand better what is Ashtanga Yoga.

We really do not laugh at our Yoga, we do not try new positions every day and yes, we have a serious attitude while we're on the mat, of introspection, attention, concentration. And yes, we are silent ... because we need to breathe through your nose, we need to be with our breath . But the attitude can also be lighter, should be lighter, happier, more neutral. Yes, touching the limits of our comforts, the limits of our physical, mental, emotional and energy capacities is not easy. Sometimes it's not pretty, is not happy, is not inspiring, it is not ... Feeling closely the experience of our frustrations, because they often come up, before you know them, PUM ... there are within us, to test us ... It is not easy ... but no doubt this is where Yoga begins. The process is this, there are no secrets in it, so as Guruji's famous phrase say "practice, practice, practice ... all is coming." What we need is to practice, having a serious attitude, being in silence, but having inner happiness, joy ...we do not do yoga to be sullen, to live sadly, to feel bad ... That makes no sense.

We must cultivate the right attitude when we are on the mat, not travelling with our mind every time we encounter a difficulty, OH'M BORING! OH'M TIRED! OH I AM SO STIFF! OH, OH, OHHHH! or rather, OH I AM SO MOTIVATED! OH I M WITH MUCH ENERGY! OR I AM SO FLEXIBLE! YUPIII!! Nor to one side or the other. Being well, happy, and neutral. Breathing, living the postures, being awake, synchronized and present in our practice.

Talking about it is much easier to do, but the fact that we are on the mat 6 days a week, allows to gain the tools necessary to find the balance of the opposites. And you practice a year ago! Some of us who are here in front of you are practicing for over 10 years, 5, 4 ... Believe that we've been through this, some may not have talked about it, maybe some prefer live this questions and finding the  answers without sharing with others, you did it and thankfully so, but I will not be, neither he nor she who will give you the answer.
Is only you that can answer your question.

And voila ... he continued frowning, thoughtfully, bad-tempered ... and we changed the topic of conversation to something else and continued to sip our juice ... not I, nor anyone to say whether this practice is right for a particular person. For me it is, but until i  have my first Ashtanga class, i  also sat with myself thinking that what i  was practicing at the time was not my practice and even after I started practicing Ashtanga, after that feeling of being in home, also had moments of doubt, especially when i had a pain, or when I was stopped in the same posture for more than three years ... is not easy, and yes  sometimes seems too serious. But if you read a biography of Krishnamacharya or Pattabhi Jois, we understand that this is to be serious, because if is not, if it is to be lived as a play, as another distraction, which  will be it effect in our body, in our mind? = 0.

MY SEARCH

Obrigada Denen Yoga.

How does a small woman, skinny, mature, with an easy smile, sweet, with a nature friendly, simple, can lead us to our limits to observe very closely, our physical and internal barriers? And then while we feel and live, we experience in depth the important lesson of better breathe, letting go, accepting where we are, freeing us for a revelatory experience of the potential of Yoga.

I do not know if all women teachers with years of practice and experience that Louise Ellis holds will do the same, but I confess to you that long ago that i was looking for a woman teacher of Ashtanga Yoga and I think I finally found it.

There are many Ashtanga Yoga men teachers who have general recognition of a whole Ashtangui community and I have had the great privilege to meet, study and consider some as my direct teachers.
But as a woman, as a woman practitioner, is a gift to know and study with another woman.
Particularly when we talk about a woman like Louise, who came to prove that practice and teach Ashtanga is possible, whether we are women or men.
Thanks Louise, was immensely special and inspiring.
Thank Denen Yoga.
